Hair Loss and Stress

Half of all men will have some hair loss or baldness by the time they reach 50. About 40% of women will have some hair loss or thinning by the time they’re 60 years old. If your hair is thinning or falling out you probably want to find out why and how to stop it.

Stress can contribute to hair loss. It’s rarely a major cause of baldness but it ranks near the top of the few known causes. If you have experienced sudden hair loss, and think back and consider what event may have stressed you enough to have an affect on your hair. Of course you should consult with a doctor about any unusual medical condition.

Stress can cause a lot of hair follicles to enter a stage of rest at the same time. Usually the hair follicles will enter a stage of new growth after some time and the old hair will be pushed out of the follicle by the growth of a new hair. This causes a period of hair shedding, and usually corrects itself, but if the stress is ongoing, this type of hair loss can lead to more permanent balding.

There are many treatments offered for baldness and thinning hair conditions, but there is very little information on preventing or reversing hair loss caused by stress. If you're experiencing baldness or thinning hair and it seems to be abnormal, it's a good idea to see your doctor to determine the cause. If hair loss is stress related, one of the first things to do is reduce the stress.

A few things to reduce stress include watching your diet, find ways to replace the stress and relax, get enough sleep and above all, don't give up. Keep at it and you’ll notice a welcome change in your lifestyle after you start reducing your stress level. If your hair loss is caused by stress, this will solve your sudden hair loss problems. Reducing stress and making minor changes in my lifestyle helped me.
